As the Weekday Morning Meteorologist, you will play a key role as the main presenter
of our morning weather broadcasts. Your primary responsibility will be to deliver clear,
engaging, and accurate weather forecasts and traffic information while actively
engaging with our audience to provide relevant and timely updates. Your collaborative
efforts with our news team to seamlessly integrate weather into our morning
programming will be crucial in creating a cohesive viewing experience for our audience.
The chosen candidate would also have a unique opportunity to be a part of an
additional one-hour show that focuses on our community.  While weather is an integral
part of the show, there is also a chance to substantially interact with the show's host and
invited guests.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a bachelor’s degree in meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a
related field from an accredited university.
- Certification from the American Meteorological Society (AMS) or the National
Weather Association (NWA) is preferred.
- Bring a minimum of 2-4 years of on-air experience as a meteorologist.
- Demonstrated proficiency with weather forecasting software, including WSI Max.
- Strong ability to collaborate with the news team to integrate weather information
into overall news coverage.
- Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex weather
information in an understandable and engaging manner.
- Actively engage with viewers on social media and other platforms to provide
weather updates and safety information.
- Stay informed about current and upcoming weather patterns and provide updates
on severe weather situations.
- Prepare and create high-quality, relevant weather-related content for the station's
website and social media channels.
- Experience using WSI to report current traffic conditions or the willingness to
learn.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and serve as a positive representative of
the station in the community.

Are you a show crafter who uses every tool in the tool chest to develop a fast-paced, informative, and focused newscast?  Do you strive to make each newscast better than the last?  Do you thrive on throwing everything out to cover the big story of the day or breaking news?  If so, we want to talk to you!

You must have the ability to act professionally and maintain control in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment; be accustomed to changing gears on constant breaking news, updating news, and continued coverage for our viewers.  

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create newscasts, select, research, and write content for live newscasts and digital platforms.
  • Communicating, coordinating, and executing creative vision with a team of anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff.
  • Build new content in unique and compelling ways using the many tools and technology available.
  • Working knowledge of current events and community issues
  • Enhance content with graphics, video research, and station branding.
  • Oversee all aspects of content and presentation of the newscast.
  • Ability to write, re-write, edit, and post to the station's web, social, and other digital platforms.
  • Producer will be expected to update digital and social platforms as needed.
  • Work closely with the news team for accurate and interesting news information on all platforms.
  • The News Producer will oversee content quality and accuracy for their newscasts.
  • Grow the station’s social and digital footprint, especially within key demographics.
  • Passion for production & storytelling, combined with an unwavering commitment to journalistic ethics and standards
  • Willingness to grow by taking direction and excelling as a team member.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with anchors, field crews, and technical staff.
  • Adapt to breaking news and developing stories.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years prior news producing experience and strong editorial skills
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in journalism, Broadcasting, or a related field.
  • High level of communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent judgment
  • Experience in a newsroom, the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Must possess exceptional organizational and writing skills
  • Knowledge of web-based publishing
  • Mindful of deadlines
  • Ability to lead and make split-second decisions based upon knowledge of directives
  • Must be self-motivated, have the ability to multi-task, and excel under intense deadlines and pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Experience with ENPS a plus
  • Must know how to edit

This shift is currently for a Producer.  This is a 24/7 operation and may require working overnights and/or weekends, as well as holidays.

JOB SUMMARY:
We’re looking for a smart, innovative digital producer that is ready to challenge the norm and create unique digital content as well as engage our social media platforms to take us to the next level. And we’re also looking for someone who is a team-player, willing and ready to help others and inspire as well.
The Digital Producer is responsible for writing copy and managing the WJRT digital media platforms. Duties include, but are not limited to, writing news stories under tight deadlines, sending breaking news push alerts, gathering, and creating content for all digital platforms, engaging social media users and working with the news staff to coordinate the station's digital presence. The right candidate is a strong writer with excellent editorial judgment, time management and multi-tasking skills. Knowledge of video and photo editing a plus.

The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:

  • Working quickly to send out breaking news, weather and traffic alerts, including push notifications, social media updates and web stories that are updated as news develops.
  • Collaborating with members of the digital team and the newsroom to produce and distribute news content that meets our high standards.
  • Posting to our online and social media platforms using digital publishing tools, video editing software and other resources.
  • Creating innovative and user-friendly elements for consumption across our platforms, including photo galleries, interactive charts, and other embedded content.
  • Attention to detail and willingness to learn new are imperative.
  • Additional duties as assigned, including conducting interviews for stories to appear in a digital format or on air.
  • Content creation for WJRT’s Digital platforms (Web, OTT, APP, Social Media).
  • Manning the digital "hot seat" during assigned hours.
  • Ability to field viewer calls, and cold call sources to confirm tips and scanner traffic.

Qualifications and Skill set should include (but not limit to) the following:

  • 2-4 years of experience producing digital news and social media content.

  • BA or BS in Journalism/Communications/English or equivalent background.
  • A strong passion for innovative storytelling, newsgathering, and lifelong learning.

JOB SUMMARY:
An Account Executive is responsible for handling all aspects of local accounts, developing new business, utilizing marketing skills and preparing/delivering client presentations. Manages and executes sales strategies which result in exceeding revenue targets in local, new business and digital revenue. Ability to prospect, cold call and schedule face-to-face meetings with a creative compelling sales presentation. Effective communication skills on all platforms. We are seeking an experienced sales executive. This is not an entry level position.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build, present, sell, and execute cross-platform advertising campaigns.
  • Create client re-caps, demonstrating delivery and effectiveness of advertising campaigns.

WJRT is seeking a photographer with strong storytelling capabilities. The Photographer is responsible for shooting and editing video for broadcast each day, communicating with show producers, and news reporters. The Photographer is also required to operate live and broadband equipment to facilitate real-time broadcasts from the field daily. We are seeking a self-motivated team member that wants to win each day and will do what is needed to succeed.   Versatility is a must!

You would be joining a newsroom that is energetic and expatiates breaking news, severe/disruptive weather, and daily investigative reporting. This is a full-time position with numerous benefits including medical, dental, vision, and accrued paid time off. 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILIITIES:

  • Shoot news video that accurately and fairly represents news stories
  • Edit video and audio for broadcast, promos, and teases
  • Demonstrate sound news judgment and ability to tell stories with pictures and natural sound
  • Must be able to utilize non-linear editing equipment daily.
  • Properly maintain camera, editing equipment, and station vehicle
  • Communicate with reporters, writers, and producers on video needed for news stories
  • Operate live ENG and Broadband live equipment and related vehicles
  • Keep track of edited news stories for broadcast; maintain archive
  • Respond to breaking news or urgent newsroom situations
  • Collect information by interviewing and taking notes as needed (e.g. news conferences)
  • Must demonstrate the drive to grow and learn, as well as offer creativity every day
  • Ability to work well with co-workers and in a professional manner
  • Observe all safety regulations in-house and when in the field
  • Proactive in collaborating story ideas with news team daily

REQUIREMENTS INLCUDE (BUT NOT LIMITED TO):

  • One year previous news photography experience is a requirement with experience lighting shots needed
  • Previous edit experience with Grass Valley edit systems or equivalent required
  • Capable of gathering information and interviews when necessary; conduct online research
  • Ability to shoot and edit video in sequences that help tell the story for on-air and on-line
  • Knowledge of lighting and use of natural sound
  • Must be able to work well under pressure with limited supervision and daily deadlines
  • Strong initiative and attention to detail is required
  • Ability to remain positive and foster a positive work environment
  • Understanding of and ability to follow and enforce the journalistic code of ethic
  • Must be capable of working well with others in challenging work environments to produce the best product for the viewer
  • Must be able to walk for extended periods while carrying equipment, carrying up to 75 pounds

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
A pre-employment drug screening and motor vehicle record check are required. Driving record must be kept in good standing.

This position may require availability to work weekends and may require holiday work. Must be willing and available to travel out of town on assignments if needed.
